Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy
National Center of Excellence

  • Disease-Specific Patient Care
  • State-of-the-Art Techniques
  • International Reputation

Winthrop-University Hospital’s Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) Treatment Center — one of the nation’s handful of comprehensive resources for HCM and the only one on Long Island — treats hundreds of patients and families from the tri-state area and beyond, offering expert, specialized services that address all facets of the disease.

The Center’s collaborative team of specialists, led by nationally-renowned HCM expert Srihari S. Naidu, MD, works closely with the patient’s local physicians to create personalized care plans from the broad range of available treatment options.

Winthrop’s HCM Center was established in 2004 around its growing experience and reputation for performing the minimally invasive surgical alternative known as alcohol septal ablation (ASA). Over time, patients from throughout the tri-state region began to seek out the Center, which has become known for compassionate, detail-oriented care, exceptional diagnostics and imaging, as well as a systematic approach to treatment that always keeps the patient’s wishes and best interests in mind, whether or not advanced invasive therapies are ever needed.

Today, the HCM Center is recognized as a national center of excellence by both the National Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association and the Children’s Cardiomyopathy Foundation, and works closely with several other national foundations. As such, Winthrop’s HCM Center has become one of the fastest growing Centers of Excellence in the country, with our physician staff publishing and lecturing extensively, as well as formally representing the ASA procedure in the first official ACC/AHA Guidelines for HCM.

Comprehensive Services Offered by the Winthrop HCM Center include:
  • Cardiac Imaging and Non-Invasive Testing
  • Electrophysiology, Device Implantation and Arrhythmia Ablation
  • Genetic Testing/Counseling
  • Lifestyle Modification Counseling
  • Medical & Pharmacologic Therapy
