- Yuletide Ball Raises $209,000 for Winthrop’s Child Life Program

Mineola, NY – The Garden City community, friends and supporters of Winthrop-University Hospital came together for a festive evening this holiday season to benefit the Hospital’s Child Life Program. The 2016 Yuletide Ball, graciously hosted by Paula and Brendan McGovern in their beautiful Garden City home on December 10, 2016, was a resounding success, drawing close to 200 guests and raising $209,000.
“Our family has been blessed to be on the receiving end of the amazing services offered by the Child Life Program at Winthrop, and we were honored to welcome the community into our home to support this great cause,” said the McGoverns.
Over the years, Winthrop’s Yuletide Ball has raised more than $2.8 million in support of the Hospital’s Child Life Program, which is dedicated to helping children understand and cope with the hospital experience. Certified Child Life Specialists utilize therapeutic play, arts and crafts, entertainment and other diversions to ensure that the hospital experience is as stress-free as possible for children and their families. A vital program across the full spectrum of inpatient, outpatient and emergency services at Winthrop, Child Life is supported in its entirety by philanthropic contributions.
