A Team Approach to Wound Healing
At Winthrop University-Hospital’s Wound Healing Center, each patient’s journey to healing is led by a specialized team approach to care.
Treatment plans draw upon the expertise of vascular surgeons, orthopaedic surgeons, general surgeons, plastic surgeons, infectious disease specialists, internists and podiatrists. Nurses, medical assistants, diabetologists and orthotists also work collaboratively with the medical staff.
During your first visit, a medical history is taken, and a wound appraisal and physical examination are performed. Diagnostic testing, including ultrasound and blood flow assessment, may also be recommended. After a thorough review of observations and test results, an individualized treatment plan is developed to thoroughly address the underlying causes of your wound's failure to heal.
