Center for Sleep Medicine
Winthrop’s Sleep Disorders Center (SDC), conveniently located on the western end of Long Island, NY was the first sleep medicine program in Nassau County to be accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine in 1990. This center for sleep medicine is the longest continually accredited sleep center on Long Island.
A State-of-the-Art Center for Sleep Medicine
Located in the Winthrop Wellness Pavilion at 1300 Franklin Avenue, Garden City, NY, the Sleep Disorders Center includes eight five-star “hotel-style” sleep rooms. There is also a sleep room specifically designed to accommodate children and their parents. Finally, bariatric-friendly accommodations meet the needs of obese patients. Additionally, a shared lounge, including kitchenette, is available for use by patients and families.
Each room features its own:
- Private, handicapped-accessible bathroom and shower
- Flat-screen television with cable TV and DVD player
- Individually controlled heat and air conditioning
- Wireless Internet Access
Winthrop-University Hospital's Sleep Disorders Center (SDC)
Staffed by Board-Certified Sleep physicians and technicians who are expert in the field of sleep disorders, the SDC offers a multidisciplinary approach to sleep problems, including insomnia, snoring, sleep apnea and narcolepsy. Physiological and psychological assessments are provided, and all-night polysomnography may be performed to record sleep staging, breathing, oxygen saturation, EKG and muscle activity.

The professional staff of Winthrop’s Sleep Disorders Center includes physicians who are Board Certified in Sleep Medicine, who hold national leadership positions with the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) and other national organizations, and registered polysomnographic technologists.
