Sleep Medicine Support Groups on Long Island
The Sleep Disorders Center of Winthrop-University Hospital on Long Island offers highly popular support groups for patients with sleep apnea. Our sleep apnea support group is run by a patient clinician leader and a Board Certified Sleep Medicine physician is present at every meeting, accompanied by a registered polysomnographic technologist. The group is open to all patients with sleep problems, not just those being treated at Winthrop. Patients and their partners are encouraged to share their experiences about living with their conditions and their specific treatments. The latest in sleep medicine therapies are also discussed at the group therapy meetings.
Winthrop “Eager Breathers” Support Group
The Winthrop “Eager Breathers” meet once per month in Mineola on Long Island. This group is designed for those who have graduated from Winthrop's Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program. Sleep medicine and pulmonary medicine are closely related, in part because sleep apnea, one of the most common sleep disorders, is also a breathing disorder.
