The Winthrop University Hospital Simulation Center opened in a temporary facility in 2013. In 2015, the Simulation Center moved into the new Research and Academic Center located at 101 Mineola Boulevard. This 5,000 sq. ft facility provides valuable clinical training and education for physicians, nurses, residents, medical students, health professionals and first responders (EMT's, police, and firefighters). The Winthrop University Hospital Simulation Center provides a safe and engaging educational environment that promotes the knowledge, competence, and performance of the individual learner and the interprofessional care team. The goals of the Simulation Center are to:
- Promote patient safety and improve care outcomes
- Advance the academic mission and reputation of the institution for educational excellence
- Provide engaging and effective methods of training to physicians, students, physician assistants, nurses and others
Simulation enhances the current educational offerings at Winthrop University Hospital by providing an experiential learning environment where clinicians can practice and learn a variety of technical and behavioral skills.
