Health Outcomes

The Office of Health Outcomes Research promotes collaborative, interdisciplinary research throughout the institution, assisting investigators in developing and conducting research. The Office also helps evaluate the hospital’s clinical programs.

Health outcomes research seeks to understand specific healthcare practices and interventions, linking care to outcomes. The discipline has become the key to developing better ways to monitor, maximize and improve quality of care. Outcomes research uses a variety of study designs and analytic tools according to the context and scientific problem of interest. Outcomes research includes, for example:
  • Studies describing local variations in clinical practice patterns
  • Studies to develop or test clinical practice guidelines
  • Studies that compare different approaches to managing specific medical conditions
  • Studies that examine patients’ and clinicians’ beliefs and attitudes as they affect medical decision making
Our health outcomes researchers study:
  • Bone and Mineral Metabolism
  • Cardiovascular Disease
  • Child Abuse Detection and Prevention
  • Clinical Practice guidelines
  • Critical Care
  • Decision Making in Organ Transplantation
  • Diabetes
  • Endoscopic Procedures
  • Inflammation
  • Neuroscience
  • Perinatology
  • Preoperative Medicine
  • Pulmonary disease
  • Women's Health
