At Winthrop-University Hospital, certified, licensed Social Workers provide information and counseling for patients and families seeking assistance with social, financial or emotional issues related to their illness or hospitalization. Social Workers are also available to assist patients during times of crisis, providing patients and their families support during a hospitalization. The Social Worker/Placement Worker on the patient's Case Management Team can also assist the patient and family with arrangements for post-hospitalization placement in an appropriate facility in the event that the patient is unable to return home directly from the Hospital. The Social Worker/Placement Worker can also assist with the selection of an appropriate facility, the coordination of services and management of insurance coverage issues.
