Research

The department has a distinguished scholastic tradition with many of the members currently involved in clinical and/or basic science research and publishing in peer reviewed journals. The program strives to enhance the educational experience of its residents by providing an active research environment and educating the residents in proper research methodology and biostatistics.

Residents are required to select a research topic by the start of their PGY-2 year, present preliminary results during PGY-3 and present final projects at graduation. A faculty member in the relevant area is selected to assist and guide the resident along this process. During this process, residents have access to the hospital's biostatistics department for assistance in such areas as study design, sample size and interpretation of data. Residents are encouraged to frequently present their research at a variety of local, regional and national scientific meetings.
