Every day at Winthrop, certified child life specialists utilize supervised play and education to improve patients' understanding of medical procedures, teach relaxation techniques to help young patients cope with illness or surgery and provide emotional support for the entire family.

The Child Life Program at Winthrop is supported in its entirety by philanthropic contributions, and it is the generous support of individuals and groups like The Kiwanis Club of County Seat, Mineola, Inc., which continue to make the program possible. Recently, members of the organization visited the Hagedorn Pediatric Inpatient Center to present a check in the amount of $2,500 to once again show their support for this vital program.

All children, whether just days old or in their teens, benefit greatly from contact with one of Winthrop's Child Life Specialists.
