Integrating Technology into Diabetes Education
Committed to providing state-of-the-art, individualized care for children, adolescents
and adults with diabetes, Winthrop recently hosted “Integration of Emerging
Technology into Diabetes Education,” a hands-on program designed to challenge
Winthrop’s Certified Diabetes Educators to use existing and emerging technology
when teaching patients about diabetes self-management. Presented by Marcia Draheim,
RN, CDE, Past President of the American Association of Diabetes Educators and
President of Draheim Dimensional Presentations, the program’s pragmatic focus helped
Winthrop’s Diabetes Educators develop ways to integrate emerging and existing technology
into their diabetes education services. Organized through the Winthrop
Diabetes and Obesity Institute, the program’s participants included Certified Diabetes
Educators from Winthrop’s Diabetes Education Center as well as members of
Winthrop’s Pediatric Diabetes Education Program, Cardiovascular Medical Associates’
Diabetes Education Program, Winthrop’s Division of Endocrinology Comprehensive
Center for Diabetes Care, and the Hospital-wide Insulin Safety Committee.
