Jennifer Poltorak (right), heard about the good work of Winthrop’s Child Life
Program through her friend Irene Lyons-Loeffler. A long-time Winthrop supporter,
Mrs. Lyons-Loeffler (left) is the founder of the Pat Lyons Foundation,
which honors the life of a fallen 9/11 hero by improving the lives of sick children.
Ms. Poltorak was inspired by the Foundation and the dedicated Child
Life team at Winthrop and decided she wanted to help as well, so she went
out and purchased an array of special toys including a foosball table, Thomas
the Train table and train set, interactive bubble tube system, play kitchen and
garage, and various other items, and donated them to Winthrop’s Child Life
Activity Area in memory of a lost loved one of her own.
“These toys are providing hours of interactive play for patients in Winthrop’s Hagedorn Pediatric Inpatient Center,” said
Nicole Almeida, MS, CCLS, Director of the Child Life Program at Winthrop. “We deeply appreciate such a generous donation
that lifts our patients’ spirits and brings countless smiles to their faces.”
Joining Jennifer and Irene at the donation were Patrick Mate Lyons (second from left) and New York City firefighter Peter
Lazarchek, who is also a member of the Pat Lyons Foundation.
