Gourmet Fundraising a Success

Dedicated to easing the burdens of children with serious illnesses and their families, The Michael Magro Foundation held its Seventh Annual Evening of Tasting and Giving at the Woodlands in Woodbury on October 4, 2011. The event attracted over 325 supporters and raised more than $58,000. The funds will benefit Winthrop-University Hospital’s Hagedorn Pediatric Inpatient Center, the Child Life Program at Winthrop, Winthrop’s Cancer Center for Kids and families of pediatric oncology patients at Winthrop.

“Whether it’s winter and gift cards are needed to bring food and warm clothing to a family, or someone needs a train ticket for the ride home after a long day of chemotherapy, the Foundation helps make life easier for families struggling with a child’s cancer diagnosis,” said Terrie Magro, Co-Founder of The Michael Magro Foundation, as she thanked the overflow crowd for their community spirit and generosity.

This year’s program highlighted a family who spoke about their experience with project S.O.A.R. (School Reentry and Ongoing Academic Resources) – which provides individualized pre and post school re-entry support essential for young students with cancer and blood disorders – and the ways in which its positive impact has helped their daughter balance school and chemotherapy.
