At Winthrop, a multidisciplinary
team of Board certified physicians
and specialists provide comprehensive
risk assessment, diagnosis,
treatment and follow-up care to
patients. The team specializes in the
evaluation and treatment of all types
of breast conditions including benign
and malignant breast tumors, breast
pain, suspicious and abnormal mammograms,
previous breast cancer
diagnosis or positive biopsy, and
BRCA1 or BRCA2 genetic mutations.
In addition, patients have access to
comprehensive support services,
overseen by a licensed breast cancer
social worker who provides counseling
and assistance to breast cancer
patients and their families.

The Breast Health Center team
works in close collaboration to ensure
patients have full access to all of the
vital programs and services needed to

mammography, ultrasonography,
MRI, CT and PET/CT scans;
- Minimally invasive biopsy techniques,
including stereotactic and
ultrasound-guided core needle
biopsies, fine needle aspiration
and MRI-guided breast biopsies;
- Breast pathology for early diagnosis
and treatment of breast disease;
- Conservative surgical techniques
for biopsy, lumpectomy and
mastectomy;
- Comprehensive medical oncology
and radiation oncology services;
- Advanced reconstructive surgery
techniques, including DIEP Flap
breast reconstruction and oncoplastic
surgery;
- Genetic counseling, including
breast cancer risk assessment
based upon family history;
- Psychological support for patients,
caregivers and children.
