Bay’s Big Bash – New Location, Another Grand Success!

Celebrating the life and survivorship of 13-year-old Bailey Ryan, a former patient of Winthrop’s Cancer Center for Kids (CCFK), is a special annual tradition for the Ryan-Lovegrove family. For eight years, Bailey’s parents, Michael Ryan and Alice Lovegrove-Ryan, with the support of their family, friends and neighbors, have put together a spectacular bash in celebration of Bailey’s cancer remission and to raise funds to benefit the CCFK. This year’s celebration, which called for a larger Center Island beachside venue to accommodate the enormous crowd, was an outstanding success, raising more than $65,000 for the CCFK.

Enjoying the festivities at this year’s Bay’s Big Bash were (l.-r.) Katie Ryan; Bailey Ryan; Lindsey Ryan; Linda Sweeney, Practice Manager of Winthrop’s Cancer Center for Kids; Bailey’s parents Alice Lovegrove- Ryan and Michael Ryan; Town of Oyster Bay Councilwoman Rebecca Alesia, and Town of Oyster Bay Councilwoman Elizabeth Faughnan.

“We see this party as an inspiration for other families,” said Alice Lovegrove-Ryan. “We will be forever grateful to Winthrop’s Cancer Center for Kids and this is the only way we could thank them.”

The celebration, which began as a small backyard party at the family’s waterfront residence in Bayville, has evolved into an extravagant community-wide event. Among the features of this year’s bash were the first ever kayak-a-thon race, live entertainment, musical performances by singer/songwriter Edwin McCain, a fabulous barbecue buffet, games and rides for children, and a breathtaking fireworks display overlooking the Long Island Sound.
