On January 5, the pediatric waiting
room in Winthrop-University Hospital’s
Hagedorn Pediatric Inpatient Center
looked more like a toy store than a sitting
area thanks to Senator Charles J.
Fuschillo, Jr.’s annual “Extend the
Holidays” toy drive, which provides a
full year’s supply of toys and games for
the Child Life Program at Winthrop.

New York State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (third from right) joins (l.-r.) John P. Broder,
Vice President for External Affairs & Development at Winthrop; Michael Adams, President,
Nassau County Sheriff Officers Association; Nicole Almeida, MS, CCLS, Director of Winthrop’s
Child Life Program; and Warren Rosenfeld, MD, Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at
Winthrop, to thank all of the local schools, unions and residents who participated in the
Senator’s annual “Extend the Holidays” toy drive.
Schools, unions and local residents
collected over 1,000
toys for pediatric patients at
Winthrop-University Hospital
as part of Senator Charles J.
Fuschillo, Jr.’s annual “Extend
the Holidays” toy drive.
More than 1,000 toys were collected
through generous donations
from local elementary schools, labor
unions and community organizations.
Senator Fuschillo hand-delivers the
toys to patients after the holiday season
so they can continue to experience
the joy of receiving gifts throughout
the new year.
“As a child, receiving the gift of a
new toy is one of the best feelings
during the holiday season. We want to
make sure that children in the hospital,
who are going through tough
times, can experience this type
of holiday cheer throughout the
year,” said Senator Fuschillo.
