daVinci Surgical System’s capabilities.
Winthrop-University Hospital, a leader
in minimally invasive surgical techniques,
is pleased to announce the
acquisition of Long Island’s first daVinci SiHD Surgical System – a state-of-thescience
surgical robot that integrates
3-D high definition (HD) endoscopy
and state-of-the-art robotic technology
to virtually extend the surgeon’s eyes
and hands into the surgical field. This
advanced dual console robotic system
enables surgeons to perform many procedures
in an extraordinarily precise
manner through smaller incisions,
robotic technology and unparalleled 3-D
HD visualization of the surgical site.
“We are very pleased to be the first
hospital in the region to acquire the
daVinci SiHD system,” said John F.
Collins, President and CEO of Winthrop.
“This new technology is an excellent
complement to our existing services,
and a tremendous step forward in hightech
minimally invasive surgery.”
The daVinci Surgical System consists
of an ergonomically designed surgeon’s
console, a patient-side cart with interactive
robotic arms, the high-performance
InSite® Vision System and proprietary
EndoWrist® Instruments. Powered by
state-of-the-art robotic technology, the
surgeon’s hand movements are scaled,
filtered and seamlessly translated into
precise movements of the EndoWrist®
Instruments. The net result is an
intuitive interface with breakthrough
surgical capabilities.
Among the added capabilities of
the new Si model are Dual Console
Capability and Enhanced 3-D HD vision
equivalent to 1080i. The daVinci
System also offers patient benefits
including a shorter hospital stay, less
pain, less blood loss, fewer transfusions
and a quicker return to normal
activities. Specialty procedures being
performed by the daVinci surgical robot
include hysterectomies, colon resections,
gastric bypass surgeries, mitral
valve repairs and prostatectomies.
