On December 8, 2007, friends and supporters of Winthrop-University Hospital gathered under an elegantly decorated tent at the beautiful Garden City Historical Society "Apostle House" to celebrate Winthrop's annual Yuletide Ball fundraiser. The 2007 Yuletide Ball raised nearly $170,000 to benefit Winthrop's comprehensive children's programs and clinical services, which cover the full range of pediatric specialties and sub-specialties. In addition, the funds raised at the event will help directly support Winthrop's Child Life Program, through which specially trained Child Life Specialists help children understand and cope with hospitalization.
Best-selling author Nelson DeMille and his wife Sandy were the hosts of the spectacular charitable event, which recognized and honored the volunteerism of long-standing Auxilian and Winthrop-University Hospital trustee Veronica B. Renken.
