When faced with the task of finding a physician renowned for first-rate care, many turn to New York Magazine's "Best Doctors" list as a reliable source of information.

This year, nine of Winthrop's physicians were named to the magazine's 2007 "Best Doctors" list, which includes 1,439 physicians in 61 different specialities from Long Island, the five boroughs and several surrounding counties.

The Winthrop physicians on this year's list include: Eva Chalas, MD, Chief, Gynecological Oncology; Burke A. In addition, four of these specialists - Drs. Chalas, Cunha, Krilov and Niederman - are named in the current edition of America's Top Doctors, a guide to the top one percent of specialists in more than 60 medical specialities and subspecialities nationwide. New York Magazine's tenth annual "Best Doctors" list results from a collaboration between the publication and Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., a New York City research and information company. Each year, thousands of physicians in the New York metropolitan area complete a peer-review survey in which they are asked to nominate doctors in almost every specialty - those to whom they would refer their own patients and family members. They are also asked to consider the nominees' professional qualifications, reputations and patient communication skills. Castle Connolly then refines the list based on hundreds of interviews with leading specialists, chiefs of service and other hospital personnel.
