Warren Rosenfeld, MD, Chairman, Department of
Pediatrics, and Mrs. Amy Hagedorn cut the cake in
celebration of the dedication.
Pediatric Inpatient Center dedicated in family's honor
Winthrop recently named its new,
expanded Pediatric Inpatient Center in
recognition of the extraordinary generosity
of the late Horace
Hagedorn, founder of Miracle-
Gro, and his wife, Amy. The
Hagedorns' most benevolent
$1 million gift made it possible
for the Hospital to triple
the size of its technologically
sophisticated pediatric center.
"The Hospital's commitment
to build one of the most
child- and family-friendly
pediatric inpatient facilities
received a tremendous boost
because of the Hagedorns' exceptional
generosity and unwavering devotion to
promoting children's health," said
Daniel P. Walsh, President and Chief
Executive Officer, during the April
dedication ceremony.
The 15,000 square-foot Center
includes state-of-the-art patient
rooms with bedside sleeper sofas for
parents; private, fully outfitted treatment
rooms; and comfortable, family
consultation and waiting areas.
Vibrant colors and cheerful murals
add to the Center's ambiance while
expansive skylights brighten the entire
facility. An inviting Child Life Activity
Center offers entertainment for the
patients and their visitors. And, all
patient rooms are equipped with a television
and video game console, which
are provided free-of-charge.
Patrick K. Long, Chairman, Board of
Directors, unveils the sign that greets
visitors to the Hagedorn Pediatric
Inpatient Center.
The Center is staffed by Winthrop's
skilled pediatricians, specially trained
nurses and support staff, and pediatric
specialists, who are available as necessary.
The team also includes certified
Child Life Specialists, who engage
patients in play in order to help them
better understand medical procedures
and deal with the anxiety and fear
often associated with hospitalization
and illness.
"We are sincerely grateful to the
Hagedorns for helping us to affect our
young patients' lives in such a
remarkably positive way," added
Warren Rosenfeld, MD, Chairman,
Department of Pediatrics. "Together,
we continue to help make miracles
grow everyday."
