Schubach, MD, Chairman, Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, and his family provided generous funding to support the construction of the Heart Surgery Center's new family lounge and accompanying lobby, which was completed in the late fall. Winthrop opened the 26,000-square-foot Heart Surgery Center in the spring of 2004. Occupying the entire fourth floor of the Hospital's North and Potter Pavilions, the modern facility was built in new space adjacent to Winthrop's Inpatient Surgery Center, which includes dedicated open heart surgery rooms.
