The 1940's were brought back to life at Winthrop's Gala at Club W. Royal blue velvet draped the doorways and tables and white cala lilies and roses in candelabra centerpieces adorned each table, transforming EAB Plaza in Uniondale into an elegant post-war nightclub.
More than 600 guests, dressed to the nines, danced to the tunes of yesteryear and tested
their luck in the "casino." Live entertainment
reminiscent of Ricky Ricardo's "Babaloo" and Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly entertained the guests with fabulous 1940-era costumes and nightclub acts.
The evening also paid tribute to the Gala's three Co-chairs. Mrs. Bruce Duff Hooton, Winthrop Board of Directors, Dr. Frank R. DiMaio, Chairman of the Department of Orthopedics and Dr. Mark A. Goodman, of Cardiovascular Medical Associates were honored for their dedication to the Hospital and for making the event so successful.
The Gala was a rousing success, raising more than $500,000 to benefit Winthrop's Institute for Neurosciences.
Enthusiastic guests danced and mingled to the midnight hour. Many had won some fabulous prizes, many walked away with bottles of vintage wine and all looked forward to next year's Winthrop Gala extravaganza.
