Mineola, NY – Men, if you struggle with bladder control as a result of a radical prostatectomy (prostate cancer surgery), come learn about a new, minimally invasive procedure. Winthrop-University Hospital’s “Health Update for Seniors” educational series will offer a free lecture, “Male Incontinence: Regaining Control” on Wednesday, November 4th. The program begins with the lecture at 1:15 PM, followed by blood pressure checks at 2:45 PM. It will be held at the Mineola Community Center, 155 Washington Avenue in Mineola.

Robert A. Edelman, MD, Attending Urological Surgeon at Winthrop-University Hospital, will explain a new treatment option that may increase muscle strength and improve bladder control. “In some patients, incontinence is a result of surgery to treat the prostate cancer,” he said. “This new procedure can be performed in less than 30 minutes on an outpatient basis under general or spinal anesthesia. Statistics show it to be successful in 70 to 80 percent of patients with moderate stress urinary incontinence.” A question and answer period will follow the lecture.

Seating is limited and reservations are required. To reserve a space, please call (516) 663-3916.

Health Update for Seniors is a free community health education program, presented by the Institute for Family Care – Geriatric Health Services and the Winthrop Home Health Agency. For information on other programs at the Hospital, please call 1-866-WINTHROP.
