“DIAGNOSED WITH CANCER?”

A diagnosis of cancer often leaves patients and families asking a multitude of questions, such as “What is cancer? How did I get it? What are my treatment options?”

Those affected by cancer are invited to bring their questions with them to Winthrop-University Hospital’s Advances in Cancer Care free program, “Diagnosed with Cancer? Answers to Common Questions” on Thursday, April 2, 2009, at 7:00 PM. The lecture will be held at Winthrop’s New Life Center, Conference Room A, at the main Hospital located at 259 First Street in Mineola.

Jeffrey Schneider, MD, Director of the Lung Cancer Center at Winthrop and Attending Physician in the Division of Oncology/Hematology, will answer general questions as well as provide an explanation of the stages of cancer, how they are determined, and the prognosis for treating or curing the disease. The program is designed to empower patients and families with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions and play an active role in their care.

Parking is available in the Visitor’s Garage next to the Emergency Room of the Hospital, or at the West Drive entrance (coming from Mineola Boulevard on First Street, turn left into the first driveway past the main entrance). Admission is free, but seating is limited and reservations are required. Please call (516) 663-9370 to reserve your space or for further information.

The Advances in Cancer Care series is a free community health education program presented by the Institute for Cancer Care at Winthrop. For information on other educational programs offered at Winthrop, please call the Welcome Center at 1-866-WINTHROP.
