FREE SEMINAR ON TREATMENT OPTIONS FOR PARKINSON’S DISEASE HOSTED BY WINTHROP-UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL

Mineola, NY– Winthrop-University Hospital will host a free seminar, “Discover Treatment Options for Parkinson’s Disease,” on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at 7 pm in the New Life Center - Conference Room A. This informational seminar, open to the public and structured specifically for patients with Parkinson’s Disease and their families, will be led by two members of Winthrop’s expert neurosciences team – neurologist Sakshi Bajaj, MD, Director of the Movement Disorders Program at Winthrop, and neurosurgeon Brian J. Snyder, MD, a specialist in treatment options for Parkinson’s Disease and other movement related disorders.

The topics will cover some of the latest medical and surgical options including Activa® Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), an FDA-approved, non-drug therapy for controlling some of the symptoms associated with Parkinson’s Disease. Among the topics to be discussed in detail are the DBS procedure, the benefits and risks, and patient candidacy. The seminar is sponsored by Medtronic.
