“GIRLS’ NIGHT OUT” FREE PROGRAM ON BREAST HEALTH AND OTHER WOMEN'S ISSUES
Mineola, NY – Ladies, enjoy your best health now! Winthrop-University Hospital’s Spirit of Women® community education series will offer a free program, “Girls’ Night Out: Breast Health and Other Women’s Issues” on Wednesday, October 29, 2008, from 6:00 to 8:30 PM. The comprehensive program will be held at Winthrop’s Community Outreach Center, located at 101 Mineola Boulevard in Mineola (parking and the entrance are in the rear of the building). The event will include lectures and a health fair designed to raise awareness and promote general well-being.
Presenters will take the mystery will be taken out of the breast self-exam and discuss breast cancer screening, diagnosis and treatment, as well as the genetic component behind the disease. Speakers will include Winthrop’s Anna Israelton, RN, Breast Imaging; Anca Kranz, MD, Attending Radiologist; William Reed, MD, Chief of Surgery; and Monika Zak-Aptekar, MS, Genetic Counselor, who will discuss what women need to know about breast health. A question and answer period will follow the lecture.
During the health fair, women will be able to find out if they are at risk for osteoporosis and learn tips for weight management, as well as how to recognize diabetes. The health fair will also feature rejuvenating hand scrubs, back massages, make-up application tips and more.
