STEVE H. SALZMAN, MD, NAMED CHIEF, DIVISION OF PULMONARY AND CRITICAL CARE MEDICINE AT WINTHROP-UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL
Mineola, NY - Steve H. Salzman, MD, has been appointed Chief of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Winthrop-University Hospital. Dr. Salzman joins Winthrop following 18 years at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York, where he most recently served as Chief of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.
A graduate of Stanford University and New York University (NYU) School of Medicine, Dr. Salzman completed his Internal Medicine and Pulmonary/Critical Care training at NYU. He is Board-certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine and is a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners. Following the World Trade Center tragedy, Dr. Salzman applied his expertise in pulmonary function testing to a research and treatment program for workers exposed in the rescue efforts.
“I am proud to be joining such an accomplished group of physicians in Winthrop’s Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Division,” said Dr. Salzman. “Building on their strengths, I plan to expand Winthrop’s sleep laboratory and sleep consultation services, enhance the diagnostic reach of bronchoscopy – an examination of the airways to diagnose lung disease and other lung conditions – and employ new and innovative techniques for pulmonary and critical care procedures.”
A resident of Manhattan, Dr. Salzman is a member of the American Thoracic Society and the American College of Chest Physicians and Professor of Clinical Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
