WINTHROP-UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL NAMES ALBERTSON RESIDENT AARON PINKHASOV, MD, CHAIRMAN OF BEHAVIORAL HEALTH

John F. Collins, President and CEO of Winthrop-University Hospital, is pleased to announce the appointment of Albertson resident Aaron Pinkhasov, MD, to the position of Chairman of the Department of Behavioral Health.

Dr. Pinkhasov was born in Dushanbe in the former USSR, where he earned his Medical Degree. He is one of the few graduates of a unique and highly competitive combined Internal Medicine and Psychiatry SUNY-Downstate Medical Center Residency Program. After he completed this dual specialty training, Dr. Pinkhasov was selected to become Chief Resident in Internal Medicine, managing nearly 200 residents and closely collaborating with medical leaders from all disciplines at Kings County Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York.

As one of only a handful of clinicians that are triple board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Psychosomatic Medicine and American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Pinkhasov acquired exceptional insights into the intricate mind-body paradigm and demonstrated superb expertise in areas overlapping between medical and psychiatric health.

Dr. Pinkhasov holds appointments of Clinical Assistant Professor at SUNY-Downstate Medical Center and Clinical Assistant Professor at Arnold & Marie College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Long Island University. He has taught multiple psychiatry courses and clinically trained countless medical and pharmacy students, psychiatry and pharmacy residents, along with geriatric psychiatry fellows.

Dr. Pinkhasov comes to Winthrop from Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center where he served as the Deputy Director of the Department of Psychiatry and Neurology from 2001 until 2009, when he became Chairman of the Psychiatry Department. He served as the SUNY- Downstate Director and Coordinator for Geriatric Psychiatry Training at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center as well as the Director of Electroconvulsive Therapy training for SUNY-Downstate.

Dr. Pinkhasov was elected a fellow of American Psychiatric Association and is a member of the New York Psychiatric Society, the Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine and the Association of Medicine and Psychiatry.

The author of multiple publications and presentations on a range of behavioral health and psychopharmacology topics, Dr. Pinkhasov has received several professional honors, including the President’s Award from the Office of the President, Borough of Brooklyn, and the Pharmacy Master Professor Award at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center. He was also a Primary Investigator of New York State - Office of Mental Health Grant (Phase II), awarded for the Integration of Behavioral Care in Medical Care Settings.

“Not only will Dr. Pinkhasov bring critical clinical leadership to his new position, but he will develop scholarship for the Department of Behavioral Health. In addition to the development of clinical programs, he will establish educational experiences for Winthrop medical students and residents,” said John F. Aloia, MD, Winthrop’s Chief Academic Officer.

A highly motivated physician with special interest in the geriatric population and integration of behavioral and medical health programs, coupled with extensive experience as mentor and preceptor for fellows, residents and medical students, Dr. Pinkhasov is a welcome addition to the Winthrop’s outstanding medical team.
