MEDIA ALERT

According to a Winthrop-University Hospital spokesman, “At approximately 12:15 pm, a crane operated by Bay Crane, which was being used to hoist exterior panels for the Winthrop Research and Academic Center, fell. At the time of the accident, the crane was being repositioned to a new location on the site. There were no serious injuries and there is no damage to the building or any surrounding buildings. The crane operator, who walked away under his own power, complained of a slight bruise on his head and is being evaluated at Winthrop as a precaution. The Village of Mineola Fire Department and Emergency Services Department, along with Nassau County emergency services personnel, were on the scene immediately and secured the area. Bay Crane Emergency engineers are on the scene and are evaluating the best method to right the crane and determine the cause of the mishap.”
