Friends and neighbors of Winthrop-University Hospital, local officials, Hospital administration and staff gathered on December 4 to usher in the holiday season at Winthrop’s 28th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony.

Attendees enjoyed a moving musical performance by the Mineola High School Concert Singers, who have become part of the Hospital’s great holiday tradition under the direction of Meg Messina. Also part of the evening’s festivities were remarks by John F. Collins, Winthrop’s President and CEO, and Charles M. Strain, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Winthrop.

“During the holidays, every home takes on a special beauty and special warmth,” said Mr. Collins. “This is also true of our home here at Winthrop.”

As the countdown to the tree lighting began, 4-year-old Chelsey Jimenez had an important job – turning on the switch to illuminate the magnificent Christmas tree. Following the ceremony, guests had the opportunity to enjoy an array of refreshments in the Hospital’s Main Lobby as the Mineola High School Concert Signers continued to spread holiday cheer by singing in various areas of the Hospital for patients, visitors and staff to enjoy.
