STARLIGHT TABLETS HELP YOUNG PATIENTS COPE WITH HOSPITALIZATION AT THE CHILDREN’S MEDICAL CENTER AT WINTHROP-UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL

Staff from Winthrop’s Children’s Medical Center; representatives from CBS EcoMedia; area Cadillac dealers; executives of Starlight Children’s Foundation; and other healthcare professionals gathered at a special “Power On” ceremony held at the CBS Broadcast Center in New York City on July 20, where The Children’s Medical Center at Winthrop-University Hospital received six Starlight Tablets.

Gloria Petralia, Administrative Director of Winthrop’s Department of Pediatrics, thanks the Starlight Children’s Foundation, CBS EcoMedia, and area Cadillac dealers for their commitment to pediatric patients at Winthrop at the “Power On” ceremony held at the CBS Broadcast Center in New York City on July 20.
Thanks to the Starlight Children’s Foundation, young patients at The Children’s Medical Center at Winthrop-University Hospital are now using Starlight Tablets, which give them resources to help ease their fears and empower them to cope with their diagnosis.

At a special “Power On” ceremony held at the CBS Broadcast Center in New York City on July 20, The Children’s Medical Center at Winthrop received six Starlight Tablets, pre-loaded with Starlight’s award-winning online educational programs and connected to Starbright World, a Starlight program for teens, as well as an assortment of apps.

Among those present at the ceremony were members of the staff at Winthrop’s Children’s Medical Center; representatives from CBS EcoMedia; area Cadillac dealers; executives of Starlight Children’s Foundation; and other healthcare professionals.

Starlight Tablets, a critical resource in easing patient fears and fostering the healing power of play, feature on-demand digital educational programming. Housed in a protective cover that complies with hospitals’ strict infection control protocols, the Starlight Tablet also serves as distraction therapy for young patients. During procedures or lengthy wait times, kids can play games, complete homework, communicate with friends, watch videos, and log in to Starbright World on a Starlight Tablet.

“The Starlight Tablet is a wonderful way to serve the needs of our children through education and just plain fun,” said Gloria Petralia, Administrative Director of Winthrop’s Department of Pediatrics. ”We’re thrilled to have them.”

In order to promote tangible social change, EcoMedia harnesses the power of advertising and works in collaboration with a wide network of non-profit partners—like the Starlight Children’s Foundation—to offer critical environmental, health and educational support in communities nationwide. Tri-State Cadillac Dealers – working with CBS EcoMedia, Inc., through its WellnessAd advertising – provided the financial resources to fund 56 Starlight Tablets for 13 area hospitals, including Winthrop.

The Children’s Medical Center at Winthrop-University Hospital provides a broad spectrum of pediatric programs, including primary/preventive care and a comprehensive range of sophisticated subspecialty services for infants, children and adolescents in the 15,000-square-foot Hagedorn Pediatric In-patient Center. For the third consecutive year, The Children’s Medical Center at Winthrop has been named to U.S. News and World Report’s Best Children’s Hospital rankings for demonstrating excellence in the specialties of pediatric diabetes & endocrinology, urology, and pediatric pulmonology.
