WINTHROP-UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL ANNOUNCES 2013 GOLF TOURNAMENT

Shepard T. Poole, President and CEO of The Hallen Construction Co., Inc., dedicated member of Winthrop-University Hospital’s Board of Directors and Chairman of Winthrop-University Hospital’s 2013 Golf Tournament Committee.
Winthrop-University Hospital’s 28th Annual Golf Tournament is scheduled for Monday, May 13 at The Creek and the Meadow Brook Club, and Winthrop is pleased to announce that Shepard T. Poole, President and CEO of The Hallen Construction Co., Inc., and dedicated member of the Hospital’s Board of Directors, will Chair the event.
Winthrop’s annual Golf Tournament is one of the major annual fundraisers for the Hospital; last year the event raised $512,000 in support of the Research and Education Center at Winthrop. The participation of community members and Hospital supporters is vital to the success of this event, and Mr. Poole has demonstrated both the enthusiasm and commitment that are sure to foster an engaged Golf Leadership Committee to help the Hospital achieve its fundraising goals.
Mr. Poole began his career in 1987 at The Hallen Construction Co., Inc., a major distribution contractor serving the New York Metro area's principal utilities, National Grid and Con Edison, various pipeline companies, other private sector companies, and public sector agencies, and was recognized by Long Island Business News as one of their 40 under 40 honorees in 2009.
A dedicated member of the community, Mr. Poole is active in the Garden City Centennial Soccer Club as well as the Garden City Athletic Association. He was appointed to Winthrop’s Board of Directors in 2008 and has served as a board member of The Marty Lyons Foundation from 1996 to 2010, where he was also a Vice President. Mr. Poole has been a Gala Committee member of Little Flower Children Services and has actively supported their Junior Achievement Bowl-a-thon.
A member of the first Energeia Partnership class, a regional stewardship program through Molloy College, Mr. Poole also served on the Board and is a Past President of the Distribution Contractors Association, a group of utility contractors and suppliers. He also has served on numerous other DCA committees including Government Relations, Safety and Scholarship.
Mr. Poole recieved a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Hobart College and continued his executive education at The Harvard Business School.
A resident of Garden City, New York, Mr. Poole and his wife, Anne, have three children, daughters Dale and Gwen and son, Tommy.
