Winthrop-University Hospital has partnered with Adelphi University to host a week-long summer science camp designed to educate high school students who are considering careers in the sciences, medicine, and health professions.

The program, which will be held July 23-27, 2012 at both Adelphi and Winthrop, will cover a variety of topics including an Introduction to Medical Imaging Technologies; Advances in Cancer Therapeutics; Oncology; Understanding Human Genes; and Clinical Biochemistry, and will conclude with an information session on how to best prepare for careers in the health professions, followed by a special presentation about what life as a surgeon is like.

Lunch will be provided each day. Transportation from Adelphi to Winthrop Monday through Thursday will be also provided. Each student will receive a certificate of completion at the conclusion of the program.

Students entering grades 9, 10, 11 and 12 are welcome to apply. Among the application information that is required is a letter of interest from the student explaining why they wish to attend the program and a letter of recommendation from a science teacher or guidance counselor addressing the student’s level of academic success and maturity.

The registration fee is $500. The application deadline is Friday, June 15; notification of admission will be announced by June 22.
