WINTHROP’S 8TH ANNUAL CANCER CENTER FOR KIDS GOLF OUTING
CCFK Golf Outing co-chairs (l.-r.) Frank Catelli, Michael C. Stroud and Rosemary Cinquemani at the 2011 Cancer Center for Kids Golf Outing.
When a child is diagnosed with cancer, treating the disease is only part of the battle. There are also a host of psychological, social and educational concerns for the child – and the child’s family.
At the Cancer Center for Kids (CCFK) at Winthrop-University Hospital, psycho-social support services including individual and group counseling; music and play therapy; horticultural therapy; academic support and assistance with school re-entry and even a long-term effects follow-up program are provided to the children and their families free of charge – even though most these services are not reimbursed by health insurance.
Support for these vital services comes from private donations by groups and individuals who seek to assist pediatric cancer patients and their families.
In 2005, event founder and co-chairman Michael C. Stroud, president of Atlas Investigations, Inc., joined forces with his business associate, Rosemary Cinquemani, partner in the law firm of Furey, Kerley, Walsh, Matera & Cinquemani, P.C., to organize the first annual CCFK golf outing. One year later Frank Catelli, partner in the law firm of Furey, Furey, Leverage, Manzione, Williams & Darlington, P.C. came on board as a co-chair. To date their hard work and generosity has raised more than $300,000 for the Center’s pediatric patients and their families.
“It means a great deal to us to be able to help these children,” said Mr. Stroud. “And we know that not everyone can come out and golf for the day, but if you can support the outing with a gift of any size, you can help to heal a child who is facing the unimaginable hardship of pediatric cancer.”
The Eighth Annual Cancer Center for Kids Golf Outing will take place on Monday, June 18, 2012 at the Wind Watch Golf and Country Club in Hauppauge. An afternoon of golf on one of Long Island’s most beautiful golf courses will be followed by a lively dinner and reception featuring good food and great company as well as a wide variety of unique raffle prizes.
The co-chairs are seeking sponsors, golfers and supporters. Sponsorships, reservations and donations of any amount may be made online at www.winthrop.org/events; click on Cancer Center for Kids Golf Outing.
