“MEMORY CHANGES: WHAT’S NORMAL, WHAT’S NOT” FREE LECTURE FOR SENIORS SPONSORED BY WINTHROP-UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL

Many of us have misplaced our keys, forgotten someone’s name or had other moments of forgetfulness, commonly called “senior moments.” Although memory lapses are often a normal part of the aging process, at times they may be symptomatic of a more serious issue.

To learn more, the public is invited to attend Winthrop-University Hospital’s Health Update for Seniors free lecture, “Memory Changes: What’s Normal, What’s Not,” on Wednesday,

March 14, 2012, at 1:15 PM. It will be held at the Mineola Community Center, 155 Washington Avenue in Mineola.

Adrianna Garite, DO, Attending Physician in the Division of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine at Winthrop, will highlight why memory changes with age, factors that contribute to memory loss, the differences between normal forgetfulness and dementia, and symptoms that may indicate the need for an evaluation. Dr. Garite will also explain the evaluation process and provide tips on prevention. A question and answer period will follow the lecture.

The program begins with the lecture at 1:15 PM and will be followed by blood pressure checks at 2:45 PM. Seating is limited and reservations are required. To reserve a space, please call (516) 663-3916.

Health Update for Seniors is a free community health education program presented by Geriatric Health Services and the Winthrop Home Health Agency. For information on other programs at the Hospital, please call 1-866-WINTHROP.
