PAIN MANAGEMENT SUPPORT GROUP OFFERED AT WINTHROP-UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL
Individuals dealing with chronic and intermittent pain are invited to join Winthrop-University Hospital’s free ongoing support group on Thursdays, from 10:00 to 10:45 AM. Sessions are held at the Winthrop Wellness Pavilion, 1300 Franklin Avenue, Suite ML-5 in Garden City.
According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), research has shown that many people with chronic pain can be helped if they understand all the causes of pain and the many and varied steps that can taken to minimize its impact in their lives. During group meetings, participants have the opportunity to express and share their feelings, thoughts, attitudes, fears, concerns, etc. Moreover, an emphasis is placed on developing attitudes and behaviors for coping with pain.
The group is conducted in affiliation with Winthrop’s Pain Management Center under the direction of Edward S. Rubin, MD. Sessions are led by Fredric Corb, PhD, a licensed and certified clinical psychologist with almost 35 years of experience in New York City and Nassau and Suffolk counties.
Sessions are free, but registration is required. For further information or to register, please call 1-866-WINTHROP.
