Families, neighbors and friends gathered at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow, NY, on September 18 for the 10th Annual 5K Family Fun Run/Yogathon to benefit the Cancer Center for Kids (CCFK) at Winthrop-University Hospital, Nassau County’s largest outpatient facility for treating children with cancer and blood disorders.
This family event, bustling with over 400 adults and children, featured a 5K race, a children’s race, a morning filled with ongoing yoga classes, entertainment by Glenn Schifano and His Boy Elroy Band, refreshments, as well as activities and crafts for kids. More than $27,000 was raised for the Center’s psycho-social programs, which address pediatric cancer patients’ behavioral and social issues and include Child Life, Creative Arts Therapy, Social Work and Child Psychology.
WCBS Radio’s Sophia Hall, a long-time CCFK supporter and volunteer, welcomed participants and helped emcee post-event award and prize activities. The CCFK was also especially grateful to be chosen as this year’s charity of choice by the Ed Mangano “Cruise to the Show,” which featured a raffle to benefit the Center.
Elizabeth Urbanski, Development Specialist at the CCFK, gratefully acknowledged the work of the many volunteers who helped make the day possible, and thanked all who participated.
