WINTHROP NAMES BARBARA KOHART KLEINE SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, ADMINISTRATION
Mineola, NY – Winthrop-University Hospital is pleased to announce the promotion of Barbara Kohart Kleine to Senior Vice President, Administration. In this role, Mrs. Kleine is responsible for the management of Medical Staff Affairs; Regulatory Affairs including Joint Commission and Federal and State activities; Family Medicine; Patient Relations; Pastoral Care Services; Volunteers and the Winthrop Auxiliary. She will also coordinate, develop and implement initiatives related to physician organizations and medical staff services.

Mrs. Kleine has earned the great respect of the Hospital’s Administration, Board and Staff during her 23 years as a dedicated Winthrop employee. During the course of her career, she has been responsible for numerous clinical, ancillary and support services departments and has been instrumental in the quality and cost-savings achieved in these areas. She has developed and implemented a variety of customer service programs including the creation of the Hospital’s customer service steering committee to identify, implement and improve customer service initiatives; a comprehensive patient satisfaction measurement system with national benchmarks; a customer service orientation program for all employees; and an award and recognition program for employees.
Over more than two decades, Mrs. Kleine has been deeply involved with virtually every area of the Hospital’s Administration. Her efforts have helped to improve the care and services offered to Winthrop ‘s patients and their families and she has worked closely with the Board of Directors to create the Pastoral Care and Education Program including the construction of the Hospital’s magnificent Serenity Chapel.
In her role as Administrative Liaison to the Winthrop Medical Staff Organization, Mrs. Kleine has improved Medical Staff relationships with Administration through the establishment of ongoing physician dialogues and forums to address concerns and issues important to medical staff. In 2002, she initiated Winthrop-University Hospital’s Medical Staff Service Awards dinner to recognize the dedicated members of the Medical Staff – an elegant gathering that is enjoyed by members of the Medical Staff, Board of Directors and Administration on an annual basis.
Prior to working at Winthrop, Mrs. Kleine developed a strong background in regulatory affairs through 10 years of experience at Nassau County Medical Center in East Meadow, New York where she rose to Assistant Hospital Director for Professional Services. In addition she was employed for two years at the New York State Department of Health’s Office of Health Systems Management where she served as a Regional Medical Care Administrator. In this role, Mrs. Kleine coordinated regulatory and utilization review of the Medicaid Cost Containment Program, NYSHUR and PSRO monitoring programs.
Mrs. Kleine holds a Master of Science in Health Services Administration from Stony Brook University and is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives. She is on a number of state, regional, and network committees related to healthcare services and was recently appointed to the President’s Advisory Council at Adelphi University, her undergraduate alma mater.
