WINTHROP RANKS AMONG TOP 5% IN NATION FOR WOMEN’S HEALTH
- HealthGrades Report: Women’s Mortality Risk 40% Lower at Top-Performing Hospitals -
A study released today by HealthGrades, the nation’s leading, independent source of physician information and hospital quality ratings, named Winthrop-University Hospital among the top five percent in the nation for women’s health and one of only six Women’s Health Excellence Award recipients in New York. What’s more, Winthrop is the only Hospital in Nassau and Suffolk County to receive this prestigious designation.
In 2011, Winthrop-University Hospital was also named a HealthGrades Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence for the third year in a row and a recipient of eight specialty excellence awards spanning Cardiac, Pulmonary, Vascular, Gastrointestinal, and General Surgery service areas.
The findings are based on an analysis of more than five million Medicare patient records from 2007 to 2009 and focused on 16 procedures and diagnoses. The HealthGrades Women’s Health in American Hospitals report identified the top-performing hospitals in the nation for women’s health and compared women’s health outcomes to those of men in two primary areas: cardiac care and bone and joint health. Significant differences in women’s treatment and outcomes were found.
“Winthrop-University Hospital is committed to excellence in patient care, quality and safety – not only in the area of women’s health, but in every healthcare specialty,” said John F. Collins, President & CEO of Winthrop-University Hospital. “We are very proud of our most recent accolades from HealthGrades, which are a testament to the outstanding care that is delivered to patie
