WINTHROP-UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL NAMES RICHARD RIVERA VICE PRESIDENT, ADMINISTRATION


Richard A. Rivera, MPH, MT, LCLT, CHE, Vice President, Administration at Winthrop-University Hospital.
In the latest step of his distinguished career at Winthrop-University Hospital, Richard A. Rivera, MPH, MT, LCLT, CHE has been appointed Vice President, Administration. In this role, Mr. Rivera is responsible for administrative oversight of the Department of Medicine and Medicine Faculty Practices. He has also assumed administrative oversight of the Office of Academic Affairs, Behavioral Health and the Research Institute. Mr. Rivera will continue to administer Winthrop’s Diabetes and Obesity Institute and Winthrop’s Institute for Cancer Care.

For over forty years, Mr. Rivera has been a devoted employee of Winthrop, most recently serving as Assistant Vice President, Administration. Mr. Rivera has also held various positions within the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, including serving as the Administrative Director. Under his leadership, the Department expanded its diagnostic and testing capabilities, implemented state-of-the-art technology, and transitioned into a recognized center of excellence.

Mr. Rivera has also chaired a number of Hospital committees that have brought about significant institutional process improvements, and is a standing member of advisory boards. Mr. Rivera also served as the oversight administrator for the Hospital’s clinical laboratory sciences Student Internship Programs, with affiliations that include many Long Island colleges and universities including Stony Brook and St. John’s University.

Mr. Rivera holds a Bachelor’s Degree from St. John’s University, and a Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration from Long Island University. He resides in Garden City.
