WINTHROP’S HOME HEALTH AGENCY NAMED TO THE 2010 HOMECARE ELITE™

For the fourth consecutive year, Winthrop-University Hospital’s Home Health Agency has been named to the HomeCare Elite™ – a compilation of the top-performing home health agencies in the United States. This annual review identifies the top 25 percent of agencies, ranked by an analysis of performance measures in quality outcomes, quality improvement and financial performance, and is the only performance recognition of its kind in the home health industry.

“Once again, Winthrop’s Home Health Agency has demonstrated its outstanding commitment to serving the vast needs of patients, and has been recognized as such with this designation as a leader among home healthcare agencies across the United States,” said John F. Collins, Winthrop’s President and CEO.

“It is through our staff’s team approach to patient care and clinical expertise that Winthrop’s Home Health Agency consistently provides this recognized level of excellence. This award is a testament to our outstanding staff and the patient-centered care for which Winthrop home care is known,” said Anne Calvo, RN, BSN, MPS, Administrator, Winthrop-University Hospital’s Home Health Agency.

Winthrop’s Home Health Agency offers a seamless continuum of post-hospital care, aimed at allowing patients to maintain independence and quality of life at home while recuperating or managing an illness. With a staff of 200, Winthrop’s Home Health Agency logs more than 100,000 home visits annually and provides in-home care including nursing, social and therapeutic rehabilitative services for patients ranging from newborn to geriatric. From physical therapy following joint replacement and post-partum care for new mothers to chemotherapy for cancer patients, Winthrop’s Home Health Agency can meet the vast majority of patients’ needs at home. With preventing rehospitilization as one of the Agency’s goals, the staff spends a great deal of time educating patients about self care, disease prevention, nutrition and medication management in order to slow disease progression and avoid unnecessary hospitalization.

Winthrop’s Home Health Agency also offers a home telemonitoring program – a remote monitoring program that enables patients to take an active role in their care under the daily supervision of a skilled team of clinicians. This specialized program was designed to help patients follow their post-hospital treatment plans through personalized, physician-prescribed therapies, education and support provided at home.

“The 2010 HomeCare Elite winners continue to demonstrate a commitment to providing their patients with the best possible care while performing at the highest level,” said Amanda Twiss, CEO of OCS HomeCare. “We congratulate Winthrop-University Hospital’s Home Health Agency on being one of the top home care agencies in the country.”
