Mineola, NY – Winthrop-University Hospital is pleased to announce the appointment of Robert A. Edelman, MD, to the position of Acting Chairman of the Department of Urology. An expert in endoscopic, percutaneous and open surgery of congenital and acquired conditions of the urinary and reproductive systems, Dr. Edelman provides exceptional care to patients suffering with a range of complex urological conditions.Dr. Edelman has a long history with Winthrop, having served as an attending physician at the Hospital since 1979 and as the Director of Cryotherapy (use of extreme cold to destroy unhealthy tissue) since 2007. Committed to medical education, Dr. Edelman is also an Assistant Clinical Professor at Stony Brook University School of Medicine. Dr. Edelman graduated cum laude from Brooklyn College in 1970. He received his Medical Degree from State University of New York (SUNY) Upstate Medical University and completed surgical and urology residencies at Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center in the Bronx. Dr. Edelman has published several papers on urological research and has invented a number of significant medical products including the Edelman Catheter. He has also served as the Principal Investigator on several clinical trials. A resident of Mill Neck, NY, Dr. Edelman is certified by the American Board of Urology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He also serves as a member of the American Fertility Society, the Academic Urological Association and the New York Chapter of the American Urological Society.
