WINTHROP-UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL ANNOUNCES PAIN MANAGEMENT SUPPORT GROUP
Winthrop-University Hospital is pleased to announce that it will hold a new support group for patients dealing with chronic and intermittent pain beginning January 13, 2011, at 10:00 AM. The group will meet for eight consecutive Thursdays at the Winthrop Wellness Pavilion, 1300 Franklin Avenue, Suite ML-5 in Garden City.
According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), research has shown that many people with chronic pain can be helped if they understand all the causes of pain and the many and varied steps that can taken to undo what chronic pain has done. During group meetings, participants will have the opportunity to express and share their feelings, thoughts, attitudes, fears, concerns, etc. Moreover, an emphasis will be placed on developing attitudes and behaviors for coping with pain.
The group is being conducted in affiliation with Winthrop’s Pain Management Center under the direction of Edward S. Rubin, MD. Sessions will be led by Fredric Corb, PhD, a licensed and certified clinical psychologist with almost 35 years of experience in New York City and Nassau and Suffolk counties.
The group is free, but registration is required. For further information or to register, please call 1-866-WINTHROP.
