WINTHROP & LOCAL RESIDENTS MAKE STRIDES IN THE FIGHT AGAINST BREAST CANCER

Frank A. Monteleone, MD, Chief of the Division of Breast Surgery at Winthrop-University Hospital, and avid supporter of the ACS’s annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk (second from right), congratulates (l.-r.) Paula Rossetti of Bayside, Rose Tramantana and Robin Battaglia of Floral Park on their outstanding efforts to raise funds for the fight against breast cancer.
Although any one person can fight for a cause, the efforts of a team can have an even greater impact. With one goal in mind – supporting the American Cancer Society (ACS) in their commitment to raise funds in the fight against breast cancer – staff from Winthrop-University Hospital joined with friends and family members to participate in the 2010 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk held at Jones Beach on October 19.

With 65 supporters of the Winthrop Team effort, which was coordinated by Rafaelina Martinez, Administrative Director for Winthrop’s Department of Surgery; Linda Fox, RT(R)(M)(CT)MBA, Manager of Winthrop’s Breast Imaging and Diagnostic Center; and Alisha Ellis, LMSW, Breast Cancer Social Worker, the Hospital was proud to participate in the ACS’s annual Making Strides Walk to raise awareness and funds to fight breast cancer. Thanks to their collective efforts, the Winthrop Team raised nearly $24,000 for breast cancer research. What’s more, the Hospital was pleased to recently recognize the outstanding efforts of Robin Battaglia and Rose Tramantana of Floral Park and Paula Rossetti of Bayside who, together, raised more than $3,400 for this important cause – the most of any Winthrop Team members.

At Winthrop-University Hospital, breast health is more than just an annual mammogram and a recommendation for regular self breast exams. Well beyond these basic yet essential services, Winthrop provides high quality, comprehensive breast care in a supportive environment. From routine screenings using the latest diagnostic imaging to minimally invasive biopsy techniques and state-of-the-art treatments for breast cancer, Winthrop offers a full-range of breast services designed to support a woman’s every need.

Winthrop’s Breast Health Center provides a multidisciplinary approach to breast health, offering not only services of skilled technologists, but also easy access to Winthrop’s team of board-certified physicians and specialists including radiologists, pathologists, medical and radiation oncologists, and world-class surgeons specially trained in breast, plastic and reconstructive surgery and supportive services including genetic counseling and social work.
