Each year during the December holiday season, Garden City residents gather for Winthrop-University Hospital’s Yuletide Ball, an elegant evening of dining, dancing and fundraising in support of Winthrop’s Child Life Program. Recently, Mary Beth and Christopher Tully of Garden City hosted a Committee Kick-Off Cocktail Reception in their home to commence the planning of the 2010 event.

John and Liz Durand have graciously volunteered to host the 2010 Yuletide Ball, which will take place in their beautiful Garden City home on Saturday, December 11 and will feature a festive cocktail party-style atmosphere in an elegant lounge-like setting. A festive, contemporary holiday atmosphere complete with live music and fine dining will set the tone for an unforgettable community event aimed at raising crucial funds for Winthrop’s Child Life Program.

Winthrop’s Child Life Program is dedicated to helping children understand and cope with the hospital experience. Caring and highly trained Certified Child Life Specialists utilize therapeutic play, arts and crafts, entertainment and playful education to ensure that the hospital experience is as stress-free as possible for children and their families. Child Life Specialists are available in the Hospital’s Pediatric Emergency Unit, the Cancer Center for Kids, the Pediatric Specialty Center and the Hagedorn Pediatric Inpatient Center.
