Mineola, NY – Members of Nassau County’s Hispanic community enjoyed an informative evening that included free health information and screenings, Latin food, games and more at Winthrop-University Hospital’s 8th Annual Hispanic Health Fair, “Diga Sí a La Buena Salud” (Say Yes to Good Health) on May 13, 2010. The event took place at the Hospital’s Community Outreach Center.

The purpose of Winthrop’s Diga Sí Health Fair is to eliminate racial and ethnic disparities in healthcare by helping medically underserved families from the local community obtain access to vital healthcare resources. This year’s event, which was supported by a grant from the William E. & Maude Pritchard Charitable Trust, featured free blood pressure and BMI checks and information on a wide range of health topics including women’s and children’s health, nutrition, heart health and stroke. Volunteers from nearly every department of the Hospital were available to help answer questions and offer support to attendees. Free transportation was also provided to residents of near by communities.
