Participants enjoyed swim instructions from Total Immersion Swimming, music, raffles, crafts, massages, gifts and more. Proceeds from the event support Winthrop’s Child Life Program through which certified child life specialists utilize supervised play and education to improve patients’ understanding of medical procedures, teach relaxation techniques to help young patients cope with illness or surgery, and provide emotional support for the entire family.
“Every year, the enthusiasm for the Swimathon builds. We are grateful for the community’s support in making this event such a success; every lap goes a long way in supporting the unique services that Winthrop provides to thousands of sick children every year,” said Ron Marino, DO, MPH, Associate Chairman and Director of General Pediatrics at Winthrop, and organizer of the annual fundraiser.
