WINTHROP NAMES GEORGE P. RAINER, SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, HUMAN RESOURCES
Mineola, NY – In an effort to continue to support growth and expansion, Winthrop-University Hospital has named George P. Rainer, Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Organizational Development, for the 591-bed major academic teaching hospital, which employs over 6,000 employees.

Mr. Rainer most recently served as Vice President, Human Resources at Winthrop. He has been employed for over 36 years in senior human resources capacities and has extensive experience as a human resources consultant and practitioner in the financial service, manufacturing and healthcare sectors.
A senior administrator at Winthrop since 1989, Mr. Rainer is known as an advocate for professional development and educational opportunities for employees. He is credited with establishing a partnership with Farmingdale State College for the development of an innovative expansion of the Registered Nursing Associate Degree program. Through Mr. Rainer’s efforts and dedication to the nursing profession, Winthrop-University Hospital also built two state-of-the art nursing laboratories at Farmingdale State College. In 2007, the Nurses Association of the Counties of Long Island, Inc. recognized him for these and other initiatives that support the advancement of nurses by presenting him with their esteemed Community Award.
Mr. Rainer is actively involved in a number of important community organizations and initiatives. Presently, he serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the American Red Cross in Nassau County and the 1st Vice President of the Foundation Board of Directors of Farmingdale State College. He is a former member of the Business Advisory Board of The Rehabilitation Institute, an organization dedicated to rehabilitating disabled Long Islanders back into the work force. Additionally, in 2007, Mr. Rainer was appointed Chairman of the Human Resources Advisory Committee of the Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS).
Mr. Rainer is the recipient of the Henry P. Davison Memorial Award, the American Red Cross in Nassau County’s most prestigious award for recognizing an individual for exemplary volunteer service. Additionally, in 2006, Mr. Rainer received a Distinguished Service Award from the Town of Hempstead Workforce Investment Board for his continuous efforts to develop the leadership and employment skills of students from Roosevelt, Hempstead and Uniondale High Schools. His workforce efforts over the past decade with the Rehabilitation Institute enabled Winthrop to receive the Distinguish Employer Award from the State of New York on two occasions for efforts to advance the employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
Mr. Rainer holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Adelphi University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Behavioral Science from Brooklyn College. A resident of Port Jefferson, Mr. Rainer and his wife, Donna, have two adult children and five grandchildren.
