Mineola, NY – Recently, 21-year-old Emily Mottahedeh of Port Washington, a former pediatric cancer patient of the Cancer Center for Kids (CCFK) Outpatient Center at Winthrop-University Hospital, spearheaded a special fundraising effort to benefit the CCFK. Emily secured sponsors and cut and donated her hair to Locks of Love – an organization that provides hairpieces to children suffering from hair loss as a result of a medical diagnosis. What’s more, Emily shared more than $6,000 in proceeds with the CCFK in support of their comprehensive psychosocial programs and services.

The CCFK at Winthrop is Nassau County’s largest outpatient center for the treatment of pediatric cancer and blood disorders. In addition to providing patients with top quality care, the Center places a major emphasis on the non-medical aspects of cancer, with particular attention paid to the emotional and quality-of-life needs of children and their families. The CCFK is a member of the Children’s Oncology Group, the internationally renowned organization leading the fight against childhood cancer.
