WINTHROP SWIMATHON SET FOR SUNDAY, APRIL 18TH AT HOFSTRA SWIM CENTER

North Shore High School Team swimmers at the Eighth Annual Swim-a-thon to benefit Winthrop’s Child Life Program.
Mineola, NY – Swimmers of all skill-levels are invited to enjoy a fun-filled morning while raising funds for a worthy cause at Winthrop-University Hospital’s Ninth Annual Swim-a-Thon on Sunday, April 18 from 7:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Hofstra University’s Swim Center. Open to swimmers ages six and older, the Swim-A-Thon will raise vital funds for the Hospital’s Child Life Program through which certified Child Life Specialists utilize play and education to improve the understanding of medical procedures; teach relaxation techniques to help the patients cope with illness or surgery, and provide emotional support for the entire family.

“The annual Swimathon is a fun event that the whole family can enjoy while supporting vital services for pediatric patients at Winthrop. It’s also a great opportunity for both children and adults to participate in community service, while enjoying a healthy activity,” said Ron Marino, DO, MPH, Associate Chairman and Director of General Pediatrics at Winthrop, and organizer of the annual fundraiser.

Schools are invited to come in groups, and community members are invited to swim or support a swimmer through a sponsorship pledge. In addition, students can earn community service hours by participating either as swimmers or as volunteers.

Participants will enjoy swim coaching by Joe Petrush from Total Immersion Swimming, massage therapy by Denise Cook, RN, live music by the Paul Marino Music Studio High School Jazz Ensemble and Central Beat rock band, face painting by All about Kids, crafts by Creative Arts Studio of Sea Cliff, raffles, prizes and more.

The registration fee for adults is $20; for children ages six to 18 and students with a valid school ID the fee is $10. For more information, or to register or volunteer, please visit www.winthrop.org/events or call (516) 663-4423.
